by on Dec.23, 2009 @ 11:12 am, under NPB

Chiba Lotte Marines

...Toshiaki Imae will be renting out Chiba Marine Stadium on the 25th to hold a baseball clinic for about 60 children living in orphanages.

Hanshin Tigers

...Kyuji Fujikawa will begin training again on the 23rd.  For the first time in 3 years, Fujikawa will be staying in Japan to train -- he'll be working out with high school players in order to get back to the basics.

...The Tigers still need to sit down with six players: Fujikawa, Tomoaki Kanemoto, Tsuyoshi Shimoyanagi, Kentaro Sekimoto, Yasutomo Kubo, and Takashi Toritani.  With only three more negotiation dates available (24, 25, and 28), there's a good chance up to five players might not sign until the new year.

...Joshin Electronics are thinking about asking Kenji Johjima to be their spokesman in 2010.

Nippon Ham Fighters

...Kazunori Yamamoto filed marriage papers with a Hiromi Ito on Tuesday.

Orix Buffaloes

...Akinobu Okada said that he plans to start Keiji Ohbiki at short in the 2 hole.  He's also planning on using Tomotaka Sakaguchi as a lead-off hitter at center, with Mitsutaka Goto batting third and playing second.

Rakuten Eagles

...Masahiro Tanaka will be sitting down with the Eagles' front office for contract negotiations on Christmas Day.  He could see his 2009 salary double (75M to 150M yen).

...Takeshi Yamasaki is set to negotiate with the Eagles on the 24th.  He's looking for a big raise.

Seibu Lions

...The Lions are apparently in talks with Brian Sikorski.  The team isn't quite sure whether or not Alex Graman will be ready to pitch next season.  They are also in the market for a set-up man.  Sikorski could potentially fill both roles.

...G.G. Sato put an offer on hold during negotations yesterday.  He's apparently looking for something near 100M yen (he made 67M yen this past season).  This marks the third off-season he'll likely enter Spring camp without a contract.

...Hiroyuki Nakajima met with the Lions again on Tuesday for about 3 hours and 20 minutes.  But he left the negotiation table unsatisfied and put the Lions' 250M yen offer on hold.

Yakult Swallows

...Shohei Tateyama is planning on riding 2,000-km on his road bike when he heads off to Hawaii for training in January.  He'll be looking to ride about 100-km a day.

Tateyama is also talking to the Swallows about inviting children battling illnesses and handicapped fans to the ballpark during games he starts (Tateyama Day).

Yokohama Bay Stars

...The Bay Stars like what the Yomiuri Giants have done with their Ikusei players and plan on using their system as a base for their own.

...The Bay Stars are planning on holding a tryout for Ricky Barrett at Spring camp.  The Bay Stars would like sign at least one more lefty before the start of the season.

Yomiuri Giants

...Hayato Sakamoto worked out for the second straight day on Tuesday.  He spent about an hour running and practicing his swing with a fungo bat in front of a mirror.  Sakamoto was still recovering from a cold.

...Wirfin Obispo is apparently planning on dressing up as Santa Claus and handing out gifts to children back in the Dominican Republic.
