Hideki Matsui never wanted a multi-year deal

The Angels offered the Yankees' Japanese media relations coordinator, Isao Hirooka, a job with the team.  Seems Hideki Matsui wants to continue working with him.  The Yanks will likely allow Hirooka to move on.

Incidentally, Sponichi is reporting that Matsui never wanted a multi-year deal and that he was targeting a 1-year deal from the start.  The reason?  Because he didn't want to be locked into a deal based on his current situation.  In other words, Matsui seriously feels that he can increase his worth by playing some games in the outfield and is banking (no pun intended) on a nice multi-year deal after the 2010 season.

Sponichi quotes Rob Neyer's piece on Gold Glovers of the decade.  Using USR as a metric, Neyer picks Ichiro Suzuki as the best right fielder and Hideki Matsui as the worst left fielder of the decade.
