I suppose desperate times call for desperate measures.

Via the AFP:

TAIPEI — Taiwan said Wednesday it plans to spend two billion dollars (62 million US) to revive baseball after the island's favourite sport was hit by a string of match-fixing scandals.

The focus of the four-year government plan is to improve payment and pension schemes for professional players and offer tax incentives to corporate sponsors, a cabinet statement said.

The Sports Affairs Council said it would tightly monitor professional league games and toughen penalties on match-rigging.
