Hideki Matsui arrived in Japan on Wednesday and held a press conference at a hotel near Narita Airport.  He told reporters that he was happy with his final performance in pinstripes and that he looked forward to his new future with the Angels.  Matsui will spend most of his time training in Japan before heading back to the US sometime in early February.

Sponichi has a copy of his interview:

What are your thoughts right now?

If we consider a good ending as good, then it was a good year.  I had a great run towards the end and was able to blast away all my troubles.

On winning the World Series...

It's a big deal.  I joined the Majors because I wanted a World Series ring.  And I joined the Yankees because they had the best chance.  It took a while, but I attained one of my goals.

On being the World Series MVP...

I was lucky.  I only started 3 of the 6 games but I managed to take good cuts in the few chances I had.

You've had to overcome a number of injuries in recent years...

As a player, I wanted to have a good season where I put up solid numbers.  And I think it was big that I was also able to play despite not being 100% at times.

On joining a new team...

Worries come with new beginnings, but there are also a lot of things to look forward to as well.  My goal is to win with the new team.  That part doesn't change.

On next season...

The first thing I want to do is prove that I can play the field.  I don't think I can play the field every day, but I do intend on being ready to play the field once every few games.

Sponichi mentions a NY Post article that lists Kei Igawa as the Worst NY Player of the Decade.
