The Yomiuri Giants are in pursuit of 31-year-old infielder, Edgar Gonzalez. If his exam comes back clean, the club plans on offering him a contract.
Gonzalez was initially drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2000 and then made his way through 5 other organizations since then. Of the 6 teams he played for, the Padres were the only team that used him at the MLB level.
The Giants are hoping to fill their hole at second base with Gonzalez.
=== UPDATE 1/9/2010 12:14am
The Giants have officially signed Gonzalez to a 1-year deal worth 46.5M yen ($500,000). He was also assigned the number 38. He will be registered as "E. Gonzalez" in the player registry and his name will appear as "エドガー" (Edgar) on the scoreboard.
