Around the NPB Horn: Johjima starts his training up at Sasebo

Hanshin Tigers

...Kenji Johjima started up his training at Sasebo Stadium  on Saturday.  He plans on training at Sasebo until the 22nd and then head down to Okinawa after that.

...The Tigers will be using baseballs made by Mizuno at Koshien in 2010.  Players will begin working out with the new baseballs during Spring camp.

Mizuno baseball are known to fly.

Hiroshima Carp

...Kenta Maeda worked out at the PL Gakuen baseball field on Friday.  Maeda wanted to train at his alma mater's baseball field once this year to help remind him of what it was like to play when he was younger.

PL Gakuen's baseball team also held their first practice of the year on Friday.

Nippon Ham Fighters

...Masaru Takeda wants to try to show his emotions more next season instead of keeping them shut in.

...Yoshio Itoi opened his training up to reporters on Friday.  His 5-hour training included fielding practice and soft-toss BP.  He's hoping to play in every inning of every game in 2010.

Rakuten Eagles

...The media has learned that Satoshi Nagai will be marrying model and radio personality Mami Kitani.  They will be submitting marriage papers on the 11th.

Seibu Lions

...Hiroyuki Nakajima hired Teruyuki Yoshida to be his trainer for a period of 5 days.  Yoshida is well-known for training the J-pop group EXILE.  Yoshida has been helping Nakajima strengthen his lower body.

Softbank Hawks

...Nagisa Arakaki had a chance to practice with his new Chunichi Dragon Ibata model glove on Friday while playing some catch.  Arakaki is excited about his new glove because it's lighter (by about 100 grams) than his old glove, and much easier to use / control.

Yakult Swallows

...Ryoji Aikawa headed to Saipan on Friday for training.  His teammate, Hirotoshi Ishii, will be joining him in Saipan for the 2-week training session.

Yomiuri Giants

...The Giants will hold a parade in Miyazaki on the 31st.  There will also be a ceremony in front of the Miyazaki prefectural offices that will include the coaches and players.

...Yoshinobu Takahashi, Ryota Wakiya, Yoshiyuki Kamei, Tomoya Inzen, and Daisuke Nakai all headed for Okinawa on Saturday.  They will likely work out in Okinawa until the 20th.

Takahashi is hoping to get his bat ready for Spring camp with batting practice in the warmer weather.

...Tetsuya Matsumoto started his training on Friday alongside Yoshiyuki Kamei.  The three could be the main anchors in the outfield in 2010.

...Micheal Nakamura arrived in Japan on Saturday.


...Norhiro Akahoshi once again said that he's interested in returning to baseball as a coach at some point in the future.
