by on Jan.12, 2010 @ 2:48 am, under NPB

Chiba Lotte Marines

...Yuki Karakawa will likely be working out at both Chiba Marine Stadium and in Narita over the weeks leading up to training camp.  He had been working out in Kagoshima with Shingo Ono up until the 9th.

Chunichi Dragons

...Hirokazu Ibata is thinking about holding give-aways once a month at home games to help attract more fans to Dragons' games in 2010.  He's also thinking about giving away some of his baseball gloves (he apparently owns over 20) at various events after the 2010 season.

Hanshin Tigers

...Kazuya Tsutsui had his delivery broken down and analyzed by Midori Clinic during a 3-day stay in Mie prefecture that began on the 6th.  According to Tsutsui, it seems he hasn't been using his lower body very efficiently.

Hiroshima Carp

...Kan Ohtake worked out at the Ono practice facilities on Sunday.  His workout included fielding practice, weight training, and playing catch.

Ohtake is hoping to decrease his walk totals in 2010 after leading the league in 2009 with 60.

...Kenjiro Nomura, Yutaka Ohno (head coach / pitching coach), Toshinori Nagata (Ni-gun position player's coach), Yoshikazu Kura, Yoshiyuki Ishihara, Akihiro Higashide, Eishin Soyogi, Takamitsu Io, Yuki Saito, Takeshi Komatsu, and Takahiro Iwamoto took part in a baseball clinic for little leaguers at the old Hiroshima Municipal Stadium on Monday.

Nomura also took a few swings against Ohno and managed to poke a single through the right side.

Orix Buffaloes

...Naoyuki Ohmura worked out at Skymark Stadium on Monday.  It was the second time Ohmura worked out at Skymark, but the first time he actually wore cleats.

Softbank Hawks

...Munenori Kawasaki opened his training up to reporters on Monday.  His 6-hour workout consisted for running, playing catch, tire pushing, and batting practice.

Kawasaki told reporters that he wants to become a player like Ichiro.

...Hitoshi Tamura made an appearance at an event on Sunday and told about 100 fans that he plans on stepping up and taking charge of the outfielders.

Tamura has been living out of a hotel during the season for the last 3 years (since he was traded away from the Bay Stars).  With a newly born third child, his family is now thinking about moving to Fukuoka to be with him year-round.

...Toshiya Sugiuchi is hoping to lead the league in strikeouts for the third consecutive season.

Only 7 pitchers have led the league in either wins, ERA, strikeouts, or winning percentage 3 seasons in a row since the 2-league format: Masaichi Kaneda (strikeouts '51-'53 and '58-'60), Kazuhisa Inao (ERA '56-'58), Yutaka Enatsu (strikeouts '67-'72), Keishi Suzuki (strikeouts '67-'72), Suguru Egawa (strikeouts '80-'82), Hideo Nomo (wins '90-'93; strikeouts '90-'93), and Daisuke Matsuzaka (wins '99-'01).

Yakult Swallows

...Yoshinori Sato was at a coming-of-age ceremony taking place in Sendai on Monday.

Sato will head to Arizona on the 12th to continue his training.

Yokohama Bay Stars

...Shuichi Murata opened his workouts in Amamiohshima to the press on Monday.  His 5-hour training session focused on exercises designed towards strengthening the lower body.

Murata ranks the home run title as a personal goal in 2010 (he wants to double his total of 25 from 2009), followed by the RBI title.  He also said that the triple crown might not be too far out of his reach.

Kazuya Fujita also worked out with Murata Amamioshima on Monday.

Yomiuri Giants

...Hayato Sakamoto and Shinnosuke Abe arrived in Guam on Monday.

...Takahiko Nomaguchi, Masafumi Togano, Tetsuya Matsumoto, Ryuichi Kajimae, Nippon Ham Fighters Masaru Takeda and Tomoya Yagi worked out at a baseball stadium in Hitachinomiya City, Ibaraki on Monday.

The six worked on various strengthening exercises during the morning and then participated in a baseball clinic for elementary school kids in the after noon.
