Rakuten Eagles sign Andy Phillips to a 1-year deal

Seems like the Eagles are cornering the market for former New York Yankee players.  They announced today that they signed Andy Phillips to a 1-year deal worth 50M yen and assigned him the number 5.

As a Yankees' fan and an Eagles' fan, it really can't get any better than having three former Yankees playing for the Eagles (albeit Linden wasn't around with the Yanks for that long).

Phillips didn't have a very good season last year, but with a year under his belt, I'm hopeful he'll do better in 2010.

An .845 ops is a pretty respectable, especially considering that he was making a mid-season adjustment to a new league. Alex Ramirez, for example, put up an .891 ops.

I think he’ll do better in 2010 than the guy he’s replacing (Seguignol) and the guy who’s replacing him (Huber).
