Waseda University has decided to make a move to artificial turf at their baseball field in Higashi-Fushimi. According to reports, the new turf should be installed and ready to use by the time the team returns from their training trip to the US in March.
The turf that will be installed is apparently called Hybrid Turf. This would be the same kind of turf that's also used at Jingu Stadium. And unlike older types of turf, Hybrid Turf was made to mimic natural grass, i.e., it doesn't place a lot of strain on the legs.
It seems one of the reasons why the team is moving to turf is because they were receiving complaints about dust problems from people living close to the field. As is, the field is currently all soil and on dry, windy days, the dust would kick-up and fly around in the air.
