by on Jan.28, 2010 @ 3:21 pm, under NPB

Chunichi Dragons

...Takuya Asao will be wearing sunglasses during Spring camp to protect his eyes.  Asao apparently has a tendency to scratch his eyes while he pitches, thus pushing dirt into his eyes and causing styes.  The sunglasses will keep him from doing that.

...Atlanta Brave Kenshin Kawakami wants Kazuki Yoshimi to be more animated on the mound.  Up until last season, Yoshimi would give a slight pump of the fist then pound his glove.  Kawakami would like to see Yoshimi work his lower body into his fist pumping.

Hanshin Tigers

...Randy Messenger told reporters on Wednesday that he wants his first pitch with the Tigers to be a fastball.

...Casey Fossum told reporters that the Fossum Flip clocks in at about 69 km/h.

Hiroshima Carp

...Justin Huber recalled his meetings with Kenjiro Nomura when speaking to reporters on Wednesday.  He said that he remembered Nomura working with the Royals during Spring Training between 2006 and 2008.  The two also had a number of chances to talk and Nomura even spent some time watching Huber take BP.

Nippon Ham Fighters

...A number of Fighters, including Naoki Miyanishi, Shintaro Ejiri, and Shinya Tsuruoka, spent their day off on Wednesday by playing a round of golf.

...With Yoshikazu Shimabukuro losing out in the Okinawa mayoral elections, the Nippon Ham Fighters may have lost their shot at a new Spring camp ball park in Nago City.  Or at least they'll have to work on making sure that the new mayor, Susumu Inamine, decides the new ball park is a necessity.

Seibu Lions

...Dee Brown has apparently heard a lot about Takeya Nakamura from his friend, Yokohama Bay Star Stephen Randolph, and can't wait to meet him.

Softbank Hawks

...Nobuhiko Matsunaka returned to Japan on Thursday from his training in Guam.  Matsunaka didn't run any sprints and didn't take any BP during his stay in Guam.  He told reporters that he's been feeling pain in his knee and that things haven't worked out quite as well as he had hoped.

...Sho Iwasaki held his second bullpen session in as many days on Wednesday.  Iwasaki has been working closely with teammate Kazumi Saito this off-season.

...Shingo Tatsumi held a 30-pitch bullpen session on Wednesday.  He's hoping to make his way into the starting rotation.

...Yuichi Honda has his eyes on tying the club record for doubles in a season by hitting 40 this year (he hit 32 last year).

...Munenori Kawasaki has been learning how to speak Korean since the end of last year so that he'll have an easier time communicating with Bum-Ho Lee.

...The Hawks will give the younger players one shot during Spring camp to make the opening day pitching staff.  Reason?  Not enough games.

Yomiuri Giants

...Daisuke Ochi held a bullpen session on Wednesday; he tossed 15 pitches from behind the regular rubber, and 11 pitches from the regular rubber.

...Tomoya Inzen held a bullpen session on Thursday and threw 40 pitches.

...Chih-Lung Huang tossed a 60-pitch bullpen session on Thursday with the catcher standing.  He told reporters that he threw at about 70-80% capacity.  The Giants seemed fairly impressed with what they saw.
