Yokohama Bay Stars: Obana to focus on pitching

by on Feb.01, 2010 @ 9:24 pm, under NPB, Spring Camp

...Takao Obana held a team meeting on Sunday and spent about an hour talking to his players.  He told reporters that he's placing about 70% of his focus on pitching and will likely spend most of his time in the bullpen watching the pitchers.  He'll have head coach Makoto Shimada take care of the position players.

On the first day of camp, Obana watched all the pitchers hold bullpen sessions and worked closely with Takayuki Shinohara.  Obana also spent time watching the pitchers working on their fielding and their bunts.

Practice on the first day of camp ended up lasting 2 hours longer than last year.

...Seems like Daisuke Miura, Naoyuki Shimizu, Stephen Randolph, and Hayato Terahara have spots in the starting rotation.

...Shun Yamaguchi plans on throwing 3,000 pitches during Spring camp.  The team is hoping Yamaguchi will be able to provide some stability to their rotation this season.

...Ginowan mayor Yoichi Iha was part of the welcoming party that greeted the Bay Stars on Sunday.
