...Koji Akiyama had a chance to watch Kenta Imamiya take some BP on Tuesday (he stayed after for extra work) and was impressed with the rookie.  Akiyama's assessment of Imamiya: he has power and a quick bat with a lot of pop.

...Takahiro Mahara held his second bullpen session in as many days on Tuesday and tossed 52 pitches.  Mahara is currently making adjustments to his delivery that make it easier for him to throw.  Ever since he suffered from some right shoulder inflammation in 2008, Mahara hasn't felt entirely comfortable with his delivery.

Koji Akiyama stood in the batter's box for Mahara's first few pitches and said that there was good movement on his pitches and that Mahara looked balanced on the mound.

...Akiyama hasn't been all that impressed with Bum-Ho Lee at third base yet.  After watching Lee take grounders at third during situational fielding practice, Akiyama said that Lee still had quite a ways to.

Lee also took 58 swings during BP and hit one over the fence.

...Kazumi Saito's surgery on Tuesday went off without any hitches.  Saito could begin a rehab program within 10 days if everything goes according to plan.

...Toshiya Sugiuchi was officially selected as the opening day starter on Tuesday.  D.J. Houlton and Tsuyoshi Wada will likely follow after Sugiuchi.

...Group B players started their second day of Spring camp at 9:30am with shouting exercises.

...Hiroki Kokubo showed up to the second day of Spring camp with his new high-sock look.

...Shota Ohba's tossed an 84-pitch bullpen session on Monday.  And as if forgetting his uniform wasn't enough, it seemed he had a hitch in his delivery that would easily be considered a balk.  Ohba was working on a slower-paced delivery during the off-season and accidentally picked up the hitch.

...Nagisa Arakaki held a bullpen session on Monday; he tossed 20 pitches with the catcher standing, 41 with the catcher bent down a little, and 3 with the catcher squatting.  He told reporters that his session wasn't all that bad and that he wanted to continue working on increasing the number of pitches he throws.

...Nobuhiko Matsunaka worked out under a completely different training menu on Monday.  He later told reporters that he did some running and was curious to see how his knees would feel on Tuesday.

...Kenta Imamiya told reporters after practice on Monday that he didn't feel tired and looked forward to being able to practice outdoors.

...Shota Ohba's first day at Spring camp didn't get off to a very good start: he forgot his uniform and had to borrow Yuki Kume's.

...Sadaharu Oh spent about 6.5 hours watching the team practice on Monday.  He also took some time out to give hitting tips to players like Yusuke Kosai.  He told reporters that he thinks Kosai has the potential to be like Nobuhiko Matsunaka and Hiroki Kokubo.
