...Ken Shinzato may have retired after the 2009 season (he's now a scout with the team), but he's still playing a fairly big part during Spring camp: he's an extra bullpen catcher.

...The Marines spent some time working on executing a fake squeeze play with runners on first and third on Monday.  The very same play the Yomiuri Giants pulled off against the Nippon Ham Fighters during the Nippon Series.

...Yuta Ohmine threw 70 pitches during BP on Sunday and faced four batters, including Keisuke Hayasaka.  Nearly half of the pitches he threw were balls.  Ohmine also threw a total 278 pitches during bullpen sessions prior to (59 pitches) and after (219 pitches) his BP session.  In all, he threw 348 pitches on Sunday.

Yuki Karakawa also threw BP on Sunday and gave up 3 home runs to Tadahito Iguchi and 2 home runs to Tae-Gyun Kim.

...Tsuyoshi Nishioka asked Norifumi Nishimura to hit him grounders on Sunday.  Over a span of about an hour, Nishimura hit 205 grounders to Nishioka.  By the end of the session, Nishioka's uniform was covered in dirt.  The last time Nishimura hit so many grounders to Nishioka was back in 2003 when Nishimura was a Ni-gun INF / base running coach and Nishioka was in his first year.

...Saburo took the day off on Sunday due to lower back pains that were brought on by fatigue.  Ikuhiro Kiyota felt some pain in his left flank during practice on Sunday and worked out under a different training menu afterward.

Both players are listed as day to day.
