...Marty Brown had been deciding what players will be working on after general practice during the first two sessions of Spring camp.  Starting on Wednesday, he moved that responsibility on to the players to see what they would do.

...The Eagles have an intra-squad game scheduled for Thursday.  They have set a pitch limit of 15 for each pitcher.  They also won't be playing any of the veteran position players like Norihiro Nakamura and Todd Linden.

Teppei won't be playing on Thursday either, even though he actually wants to.

...Marty Brown intends on using the trio of Hisashi Iwakuma, Masahiro Tanaka, and Satoshi Nagai as often as possible during the season.

...Brown dropped by a home for senior citizens in Kumejima on his day off Tuesday and learned about Okinawan folk music and traditional dance.

...Koji Mitsui continued his workouts on Tuesday in preparation for his upcoming tryout with the Eagles.  His training included about 45 minutes of stretching and running, following by playing catch at a distance of about 80m.

...Daisuke Kusano gained 6kg during the off-season and said that he would focus on eating more vegetables until he lost what he gained.  As of the 8th, Kusano lost about 5kg and still needs to lose about 1.5kg more in order to hit his ideal weight of 79kg.  Not so much of a big deal, except that he missed out on "meat day."

What's meat day?  February 9th, or 2/9, can also be read "ni-ku" in Japanese, which also happens to mean meat.  It's silly, but some Japanese people will go out of their way to eat meat on 2/9.

...According to Sponichi, assuming Masahiro Tanaka throws 120 pitches a game, about 80% will be fastballs and sliders.  The remaining 20 or so pitches breaks down to about 10 forks, 7 change-ups, and 3 curves.
