...Yusei Kikuchi was supposed to play long distance catch on Saturday but decided to keep things light and refrained from throwing.  He was apparently told by the coaches to rest whenever he had a chance.

A note from Saturday's intra-squad practice game:

Dee Brown batted fourth and hit a home run off Shota Takekuma.

...Hideaki Wakui threw 40 pitches during BP on Saturday and faced Takumi Kuriyama and Dee Brown.  Wakui surrendered 9 could-be hits to the two batters.

Takayuki Kishi, Kazuyuki Hoashi, Fumiya Nishiguchi, and Brian Sikorski also threw BP on Saturday.

...Kenta Matsusaka hit a home run off Ryoma Nogami during a simulated game on Friday.

...Atsuya Furuta watched Yusei Kikuchi and Kimiyasu Kudo throw during their bullpen sessions on Friday.  Furuta also offered the following comments on Kikuchi:

He makes great use of his upper body.  His fastball has cutter-like movement on it and looks tough to hit.  I'm definitely seeing a lot of potential. ... But it all comes down to pitching in an actual game.  In order to be successful, I think he'll need to be able to throw a change-up that moves away from right-handed batters.  Pitchers like Matsuzaka and Darvish did well in their first seasons because they also had good off-speed pitches.

...Isao Harimoto was also at camp on Friday (as was Satoru Komiyama) and had a chance to see Kikuchi pitch.  The two later spent some time talking to each other.

...Former Lion Kazuhiro Kiyohara is scheduled to drop by camp on the 16th.  It will be his first public sighting after he was hospitalized back in November.  Kiyohara will be visiting camp to record an interview with Kikuchi for a TV program.  Kiyohara also expressed an interest in having a chance at standing in the batter's box during one of Kikuchi's bullpen sessions.

...Kikuchi won't be throwing a bullpen session on Saturday after Kimiyasu Kudo advised him to take a break from pitching and try something else.  So instead of throwing a bullpen session, Kikuchi will try playing catch a 40-50 meters.
