Orix Buffaloes: Wednesday marks the end of the first block

by on Feb.17, 2010 @ 8:48 pm, under NPB, Spring Camp

...The first block of Spring camp ended on Wednesday.  The Buffaloes will now move to Kochi.  Akinobu Okada told reporters that he considered Alex Cabrera and Daisuke Nobue as first block MVPs.  He also gave the first block of camp a grade of 80%.

...Okada is thinking of Yoshihisa Hirano out of the pen.  Along with Nobue and Satoshi Komatsu, they could form the new relief trio, NHK (similar to the JFK trio Okada had during his time with the Hanshin Tigers).

Okada will also likely go with a four-man rotation to start the regular season.  The first three pitchers will likely be Chihiro Kaneko, Shogo Yamamoto, and Kazuki Kondo.  The fourth spot could go to Hiroshi Kisanuki or Mamoru Kishida.

...I misread an article yesterday concerning Shuichi Furukawa, Toru Anan, Daisuke Nobue, and Shinya Nakayama.  They are not being demoted.  Instead, the team will be taking them to Kochi campNaoyuki Ohmura will be heading to Ni-gun camp as he works his way back from pain in his right flank.  He'll head to Kochi camp on the 23rd.

My apologies for the mix-up.

...Cabrera and Greg LaRocca will also be accompanying the Ichi-gun roster to Kochi camp.
