Softbank Hawks: Practice Game Notes

...Notes from Saturday's intra-squad practice game:

Toshiya Sugiuchi started for the red team and tossed three shutout innings; he surrendered a lone hit and struck out 5.

Kenji Ohtonari started for the white team and gave up 4 runs over three innings of work.

Brian Falkenborg tossed a 1-2-3 ninth.

Hitoshi Tamura hit a 2-run home run off Keisuke Katto in the 5th.

Munenori Kawasaki hit a 2-run triple in the bottom of the third.

...Notes from Saturday's B Group practice game against the Yakult Swallows:

Reo Chikada tossed 4-shutout innings.

Akira Niho threw 2 shutout innings.

Hisao Arakane hit a solo home run in the 6th.

Tadaatsu Nakazawa ended the game with 3 hits.

The Hawks beat the Swallows 5-2.

...Arihito Muramatsu was promoted to A Group on Saturday.

...Nobuhiko Matsunaka took outdoor BP for the first time during Spring camp on Saturday.  He took 58 swings and hit 2 over the fence.

...Players threw autographed baseballs into the stands on Saturday prior to practice.  They will be doing that again on Sunday.

...Yasushi Kamiuchi will likely be pitching on Monday against the Doosan Bears.  Jose Ortiz will likely play in the game as well.

...Tadashi Settsu will likely pitch in an exhibition game against the Hiroshima Carp on the 26th.  He told reporters that he feels better this year, than he did last year at this point.

...Hitoshi Tamura received his order 0f 34.5 inch bats on the 18th and will begin using them during practice on the 20th.

...Nagisa Arakaki could pitch BP on the 26th.

...Sadaharu Oh told reporters on Friday that the team won't be going after any more foreigners at this point.  They already have Brian Falkenborg, D.J. Houlton, Ortiz, and Bum-Ho Lee.

He also mentioned that the team had three openings on their roster that could be filled by Ikusei players like Hiroki Yamada.

On Saturday, Oh was at B Group camp to watch the Hawks beat the Yakult Swallows in a practice game, 5-2.
