...Ryo Asai complained of tightness in his left hip and closed out practice a little early on Monday.  Asai apparently felt something in the area during an intra-squad practice game on Sunday.  He's currently listed as day-to-day.  On Monday, he worked out under a different training menu.

...Kenji Johjima showed off his strong arm with throws to second from on his knees behind home plate prior to situational fielding practice on Monday.  Johjima could make a start behind the play during an intra-squad game on the 25th.

...Tsuyoshi Shimoyanagi threw 93 pitches during a bullpen session on Monday.  He will likely pitch on the 25th (intra-squad game).

...Former Hanshin players got together on Monday at a hotel in Konan City for a friendly get-together.

...Kazuya Tsutsui threw 50 pitches in the bullpen on Monday.  Seems he had problems with his control though.

...Stealing a page out of Kenji Johjima's book, Matt Murton pumped his fists in the air when he singled on Sunday.  He also wanted the ball as a souvenir for his first hit in Japan (apparently it was a joke).

...The Tigers called up the following 7 players to Ichi-gun camp:

Kenichi Tagami (OF), Hirokazu Shironita (P), Tatsuya Kojima (P), Ryuji Wakatake (P), Shinji Komiyama (C), Keisuke Mizuta (INF), Ikuro Katsuragi (OF)

The Tigers sent down Minoru Iwata and Ikketsu Sho.

...Additional notes from Sunday's intra-squad practice game:

Takuya Takahama was the starting DH and batted 4th.  He went 1-for-2 with a double and 3 RBI.

Takashi Shimizu was the starting catcher and batted 8th.  He went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI.

...Additional notes from Sunday's intra-squad practice game:

Kazuhito Futagami topped out at 140km/h and surrendered just 2 hits.

Naoshisa Sugiyama gave up 6 runs in facing 11 batters (6 hits and 2 walks).

Matt Murton started in center and batted first.  He picked up his first hit in his second at bat of the game (he was 0-for-6 prior to the start of the game).  Keiji Uezono was the pitcher he got the hit off of.  Murton also didn't appear to have any problems in the field (6 chances, no errors).

Kodai Sakurai started in right and batted 5th.  He hit a home run in the 4th off Tomoyuki Kubota.

Kenichi Tagami did not collect any hits but is gaining some attention with his solid (stable) play on the field.  The Tigers are liking his speed.  Tagami started in center and batted 8th.

Wei-Chu Lin started in right and batted 5th.  He went 0-for-2.

12,000 fans were on hand to watch the game.

...Randy Messenger was scheduled to pitch on Sunday but was scratched with tightness in his back.  The chief trainer told reporters that it wasn't anything serious and that Messenger would be working out normally on Monday.  Messenger should be ok to pitch during the next intra-squad game (2/23).

...Futagami could pitch again on the 27th (exhibition game against the Orix Buffaloes).  According to Daily Sports, it seems he has a good shot at starting the game.

...Ikketsu Sho returned to Osaka on Sunday.  It appears that he's fallen behind in his conditioning due to exhaustion and will return to Naruohama for extra workouts.  Sho told reporters he needed 3-4 days in order to get himself back on track.
