Hiroshima Carp: Day Off

by on Feb.22, 2010 @ 4:52 pm, under NPB, Spring Camp

...Akihiro Higashide, along with Yuta Shirahama, spent time in the indoor batting cages on their day off Monday.

...Additional notes from Sunday's practice game against the Seibu Lions:

Yuki Saito gave up a 2-run homer in the first to Hisashi Takayama.

Taketo Kawaguchi was the third pitcher on record and needed only 5 pitches to get through one perfect inning.

Shirahama was the starting catcher and collected 2 hits, both doubles.

The first two pitchers gave up 8 runs on 13 hits.

The Lions won the game, 9-6.

...Kenjiro Nomura told reporters after Sunday's game that Soichiro Amaya will likely bat third (with Kenta Kurihara batting behind him) and play either center field or left field.  Incidentally, each of the 5 hits he collected during Sunday's practice game against the Seibu Lions came off a different pitcher.  Amaya is currently 8-for-17 over 5 practice games.

...Takeru Imamura threw 20 pitches to a standing catcher in the bullpen on Sunday.  Imamura wanted to throw more but was stopped by head coach Yutaka Ohno.  When asked about the tightness in his right shoulder, Imamura said that it was no longer an issue (he said he threw at about 50%).  He's hoping to throw a full bullpen session with the catcher squatting on the 23rd.
