...Notes from Tuesday's intra-squad practice game:

Yuya Ando tossed 3 shutout innings and scattered 2 hits.  Ando also apparently had a chance to test his change.

Atsushi Noumi threw 3 shutout innings and gave up 3 hits.

Matt Murton started in center and batted first.  He went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Murton also showed off a strong arm as he threw out a runner trying to tag up from third, at home plate.

...Koichi Tabuchi and Senichi Hoshino were at camp on Tuesday.  NPB Commissioner Ryozo Kato was also in attendance.

...Tomoaki Kanemoto could make a start on 3/16 against the Yomiuri Giants (exhibition game).

...After practice on Monday, Tsuyoshi Shimoyanagi left reporters with one brief statement before leaving on a taxi: I've got nothing left.  Shimoyanagi could pitch during an intra-squad game on the 25th.

...Kenji Johjima made a total 6 practice throws to second base from behind home plate (timed at 1.93 seconds) on Monday.

...Matt Murton took 72 swings during lunch BP on Monday and hit 17 out.  Murton is hoping to get as many exhibition game starts as possible so that he can get himself ready for the regular season.  Craig Brazell took 65 swings and hit 20 out.  Brazell will start Tuesday's game at first and bat fourth for the red team.

...Kenichi Tagami will be starting in center and batting second for the red team on Tuesday.

...Tomoaki Kanemoto ran the 30 meter in 3.90 seconds on Monday.  Takahiro Arai ran it in 3.94 seconds.  Arai later got a earful from Kanemoto (half in jest).

...Randy Messenger is scheduled to pitch during an intra-squad game on Tuesday.  He was originally supposed to pitch during an intra-squad game on Sunday, but didn't due to tightness in his back (slept on it funny).

...Yasutomo Kubo will likely pitch three innings in relief on Tuesday.  He told reporters that he plans on letting the young catchers call their game and isn't necessarily looking to pitch lights out baseball to his own teammates.

...Between Sunday (84) and Monday (93), Tsuyoshi Shimoyanagi has thrown 177 pitches.

...The coaches decided on Monday that Casey Fossum will make a start on the 25th (intra-squad game) -- seems the Tigers want to give him a shot as a starter first.  Fossum hasn't done any throwing in the bullpen the last two days but has been playing catch.

...Yuya Ando and Atsushi Noumi will be making starts during Tuesday's intra-squad game.  They're both schduled to throw 3 innings each.

...Kyuji Fujikawa will likely pitch during an intra-squad game on the 25th.  He will also likely pitch on the 28th during an exhibition game against the Orix Buffaloes.

...Tatsuya Kojima learned how to throw a cutter from pitching coach Yasuo Kubo on Monday.  He'll be incorporating the new pitch into his throwing sessions moving forward.

...As of Monday, it appears Akinobu Mayumi was more concerned about Messenger than he was of Ryo Asai (tightness in left hip).  Assuming he's fine, Asai will be starting in left and batting first during Tuesday's intra-squad practice game.

...For the second straight day on Monday, Mayumi, together with fielding / base running coach Koji Yamawaki, hit 120 balls to Ikuro Katsuragi, Wei-Chu Lin, Kodai Sakurai, and Yamoto.

...There were reports of a man taking upskirt photos along the third base side of the stadium at Tigers' camp on Monday.  Staff members quickly checked out the area for suspicious activity and found none.  No official announcements were made since evidence could not be found.
