Daisuke Matsuzaka, Hideki Okajima, Hideki Matsui, Kei Igawa

by on Feb.24, 2010 @ 1:29 pm, under MLB

Daisuke Matsuzaka played catch for the second straight day on the 23rd.  He told reporters that he didn't notice any problems.

Hideki Okajima tossed 50 pitches (including his curve and change) during a bullpen session on the 23rd.

Hideki Matsui took part in some light fielding practice on the 23rd (shallow fly balls and grounders).  During BP, he took 44 swings and hit 1 out.  Matsui worked out for about 3 hours on his first day of Spring training.

Incidentally, an LA Times article mentions that Matsui will have about 15-20 writers following him around this year.  That's about 5 times more than the number of reporters that followed the entire team last year.  Sponichi mentions that there about 50 reporters covering Matsui in all.

The Yanks might be look at Kei Igawa as a lefty option out of the pen.  Bad news for Igawa since he'd rather start.

Akinori Iwamura's locker is located in between Ronny Cedeno's and Pedro Alvarez's.  He took 42 swings during BP on the 23rd and hit 2 over the fence.
