Taiwan wants to play a championship series with Korea

Seems like there was some confusion going on amongst the various countries.  According to a report filed by joins.com, the CPBL posted a message on their site that said the winner of the Taiwan - Korea Championships Series would play the NPB Champion.

When the media in Japan caught wind of this, they approached the NPB for confirmation and was told that Taiwan's proposal did not involve any teams other than Taiwan and Korea.  When the media printed the story, the KBO filed a complaint with the NPB for disseminating information from the meeting that was supposed to be withheld from the public.

In the end, the CPBL admitted to a clerical error and the idea of the winner from the Taiwan - Korea Championships taking on the NPB champions was swept under the rug.  Interestingly enough, it seems the original rumor of the NPB champion taking on the Taiwan - Korea champion may have sprouted its wings within Japan when a number of NPB teams mentioned that possibility.

More concrete information will likely begin to filter in in March as both the NPB (3/3) and the KBO (3/20) will be holding meetings to discuss these issues in greater detail.

During Monday's Asia Series Committee meeting, Taiwan proposed playing a 3-game Championship Series, beginning on November 1st,  against Korea.  The series would be considered a "replacement series" for the Asia Series.

Korea will be meeting in March to discuss the proposal from Taiwan.

Japan also plans on submitting a proposal to Korea for another Championship Series after they work out the details during their next executive committee meeting on March 3rd.
