...Notes from Thursday's intra-squad practice game:

Casey Fossum tossed two shutout innings and gave up 2 hits and struck out 2.

Tsuyoshi Shimoyanagi gave up a run (unearned) on 3 hits over 2 innings of work.

Kyuji Fujikawa tossed a perfect inning.

Kenji Johjima showed off his arm by picking Hiroki Uemoto off first.  He went 0-for-2 with the bat: strike out and ground out.

...The Tigers are thinking of inviting Daisuke Takahashi (bronze medal winner in men's figure skating) to throw out the first pitch for one of their games this year.

...Club president Nobuo Minami is apparently a little concerned about the pitching and the outfield.

...Shunsuke Fujikawa will be starting in left and batting 7th in Thursday's intra-squad practice game.  He told reporters that he'd like to steal a base off Kenji Johjima.  Johjima will be the starting catcher batting in the 4 hole.

...Hirotaka Egusa's Tigers' Promise with Sanspo this year: finish the season with fewer than 25 walks and record his second consecutive season of 60+ appearances.  If Egusa doesn't make good on the promise, he'll have to take one reporter out for lunch.  If he makes it, he'll get a 50,000 yen gift certificate.

...While Akinobu Mayumi told reporters on Wednesday that he would be batting Johjima 6th, he also wasn't setting that in stone.

As of now, it seems Takashi Toritani, Tomoaki Kanemoto and Takahahiro Arai will be the 3, 4, and 5 batters.  Johjima, along with Craig Brazell and Kodai Sakurai, will likely bat in the 6, 7, and 8 holes.

...Tatsuya Kojima worked out for about an hour on his day off Wednesday.  He'll likely pitch again on the 27th or 28th against the Orix Buffaloes (exhibition games).

...Masashi Nohara worked out on his day off Wednesday.  While working on his swing, Tomoyuki Kubota made a surprise appearance and headed to the mound to throw some BP to him.

Over four practice games, Nohara is 1-for-12.
