by on Feb.25, 2010 @ 11:28 pm, under NPB, Spring Camp

...Notes from Thursday's practice game against the Hanwha Eagles:

Masato Nakazawa started and gave up a run on 3 hits (including a HR) and 3 walks over 4 innings of work.  He also struck out 6.

Rafael Fernandes allowed 1 run (on a homer) on 2 hits, a walk, and 2 strike outs over 2 innings of work.

Eulo De La Cruz tossed a scoreless inning in his relief and gave up 2 hits, 1 walk, and 1 strike out.

Yasushi Iihara started in center and batted 3rd; he went 2-for-5 with an RBI.

Atsushi Fujimoto started at short and batted 7th; he hit a solo homer in the 7th.

Kazuhiro Hatakeyama started at first and batted 5th; he went 2-for-3.

The offense combined for 10 hits in all.

The Swallows beat the Eagles, 5-3.

...Hirotoshi Ishii lacerated his right big toe when he tried to swim in a training pool on Wednesday.  Ishii needed 4 stitches to close the cut and will require 10 days to 2 weeks before the stitches can be removed.  He will now head back to Tokyo.

There's a very good chance Ishii won't be ready in time to make the opening day starting roster.

...Yoshinori Sato is apparently a Mao Asada (figure skater) fan.  He couldn't watch her performance on Wednesday but managed to find out about her performance from reporters after the game.

...Additional notes from Wednesday's practice game against the Rakuten Eagles:

Tatsuyoshi Masubuchi topped out at 146km/h.

Yuhei Nakamura hit an RBI double in the 2nd and a 2-run triple in the 5th.

...Ni-gun camp has the day off Thursday.
