...Sho Nakata, Dai-Kang Yang (Yoh), and Kazuya Murata are vying for the outfield position that opened up when news hit that Hichori Morimoto wouldn't be ready for the start of the regular season.

...The Fighters closed out their final day of Nago Spring camp on Friday.

...With the help of Brian Wolfe, Buddy Carlyle appears to have picked up / to be in the process of learning a new pitch: the cutter.

...Yu Darvish told reporters that he only threw 11 pitches in the bullpen on Thursday not because he was hurt, but rather because he had already thrown a lot.

If Darvish's start on Sunday gets rained out, he'll like start the next game on the 28th against the Yakult Swallows.

Darvish also announced on his blog that he's the proud father of a 3,432 gram baby boy (born at 10:56am).

...Masakata Nashida told reporters on Thursday that he considers both Tomoya Yagi and Masaru Takeda as starters.

...An additional note from Thursday's practice game against the Chiba Lotte Marines:

Sho Nakata went 0-for-4 with 2 strike outs and made a nice catch in foul territory in the 6th.

Recap of his at bats: he struck out looking in his first at bat with the bases loaded; struck out swinging in his second at bat; grounded out to second in his third at bat; and lined out to second in his fourth at bat.
