Softbank Hawks: Last two spots in the rotation up for grabs

by on Feb.26, 2010 @ 4:48 pm, under NPB, Spring Camp

...Yasushi Kamiuchi had the day off on Thursday but decided to workout with the rest of the starters.  Keisuke Katto worked out Yahoo Dome.

...Yoshiaki Fujioka will likely pitch 3 innings against the Hiroshima Carp (exhibition game).  He's vying for one of the two remaining openings in the starting rotation.  Tsuyoshi Wada will likely start and go 2 innings.

...Hideaki Takahashi is scheduled to throw 3-4 innings in a practice game against the Lotte Giants on 2/28 (at Yahoo Dom).

...As it stands, the first four spots of the rotation will likely go to Toshiya Sugiuchi, Wada, D.J. Houlton, and Kenji Otonari.  The way the schedule is currently set for the regular season, the Hawks don't need their 5 and 6 starters until after 3/30.

...Even though the Hawks already have two middle infielders, Munenori Kawasaki and Yuichi Honda, Kenji Akashi hasn't given up all hope for winning a position up the middle just yet.  Akashi worked out at second and short during most of Spring camp.  And he's hoping to make some noise during the exhibition games.

...On Thursday, the Hawks unveiled 84 different lunch boxes that will go on sale at Yahoo Dome this season (they only had 28 kinds they had last year).  Sugiuchi was a guest at the press conference.

The Hawks are also supposedly thinking about submitting the number to the Guinness Book of World Records.

Sugiuchi also shot a segment for the Association for Promotion of Digital Broadcasting that will shown on the screens at Yahoo Dome.
