Yomiuri Giants: February 27, 2010

by on Feb.27, 2010 @ 5:22 pm, under NPB, Spring Camp

...A number of players, mostly veterans like Alex Ramirez, Michihiro Ogasawara, and Yoshinobu Takahashi, stayed back in Miyazaki and continued their workouts on Saturday.

...Marc Kroon told reporters after his bullpen session on Friday that he was throwing the ball well and that he was making solid progress.  He also threw his pitches from about a meter behind the rubber.  Kroon is scheduled for another bullpen on Saturday.

...Seth Greisinger threw 24 pitches in the bullpen on Friday before stopping.  After meeting with the coaches, the club announced that Greisinger would be return to the States in order to get his right elbow tested.  While there is still no timetable for when Greisinger will leave for the US, it seems he will be back in Japan during the first half of March.  If surgery enters the equation, Greisinger may be out until sometime in May.

Gresigner initially felt pain pain in his right elbow during a start against the Yokohama Bay Stars on September 10th.  He was taken off the active roster the following day.  On September 29th, he returned and made a start against the Chunichi Dragons.  On October 9th, Greisinger felt some discomfort in his right elbow and did not pitch again for the rest of the season.

It was Greisinger's first bullpen in about two weeks.

...The Giants are thinking about asking Mao Asada to throw out a ceremonial first pitch.  Her sister Mai threw the ceremonial first pitch prior to a Hiroshima Carp game on June 30, 2009.  They'd also love for her to be a special guest in the booth during one of their televised games.
