Daisuke Matsuzaka played some catch in the bullpen on the 27th.  He'll likely play some long distance (50 meters) catch on the 28th.  It seems pitching coach John Farrell wants Matsuzaka to throw at least three bullpens and two BPs before even talking about when he'll pitch in his first exhibition game.  Sponichi pegs his first exhibition game sometime during the second week of March.

Seems Junichi Tazawa will be used in relief this season.  He'll be competing for one of six spots in the bullpen.

Hideki Okajima threw 30 pitches during BP and faced Mike Cameron, J.D.Drew, and Bill Hall.

Ryota Igarashi threw 50 pitches (including his slider) during BP on the 27th and gave up 3 could-be hits.  Hisanori Takahashi also threw 50 pitches and gave up 3 could-be hits (including one home run).  Both players are scheduled to pitch on 3/2 against the Atlanta Braves (exhibition game).

Due to the rain on the 27th, Kazuo Matsui didn't take any fielding practice and instead focused on his hitting.  He did attend a meeting with the rest of the infielders to go over plays.

===

Kazuhiro Kiyohara dropped by Mariners' camp on the 27th and met with Ichiro Suzuki.  Kiyohara also has plans to drop by Angels' camp to meet Hideki Matsui.

Hideki Matsui almost hit his own car when he hit a homer during BP on the 26th.  Overall, he took 44 swings and hit 2 over the fence.

Matsui also told reporters that he doesn't plan on give young players any advice.  He said that the younger players should go to the coaches for help and that if they wanted to learn something from him, they should just watch what he does.

Akinori Iwamura spent most of his time working on his hitting on the 27th due to the rain.

Takashi Saito tossed his second BP on the 26th.  He face two batters and threw 35 pitches.
