...Tatsuya Kojima needed 94 pitches to get through 5 innings on Friday against the Hiroshima Carp.  Seems he had trouble with his control and was falling behind in the count a lot.

...Kazuhito Futagami is on his way to Ni-gun after giving up 6 runs on 7 hits over 2 innings of work on Friday against the Hiroshima Carp.  Seems he was elevating his pitches a little.

...The Museum of Hanshin Koshien Stadium opened it's doors to the media on Friday.  There are apparently about 2,000 items on display from both Hanshin Tiger and high school baseball history.

...The Museum of Hanshin Koshien Stadium is gearing up for the grand opening on the 14th.

...Yasutomo Kubo was not at pre-game practice on Friday.  He had a fever in the morning and went to a hospital for an examination.  He was later diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis and was sent home for rest.  The team will decide what to do after checking to see how Kubo is doing tomorrow morning.

...Kenji Johjima caught Randy Messenger, Kubo, and Kyuji Fujikawa on Thursday.  He learned something about each pitcher:

  • Messenger's slider wasn't very stable / consistent
  • Kubo's new change has possibilities
  • Fujikawa can (and did) throw something other than what they agreed on (in the 8th inning with runners on first and third and 2 out, Fujikawa was supposed to throw an 2-o fastball but instead threw a shuto)

...Casey Fossum threw the Fossum flip for the first time during a game on Thursday.  His first Fossum flip came in the second inning against Takahiro Okada and was too slow to register on the scoreboard radar gun.  The second time was against Alex Cabrera in the fourth that was clocked at 92km/h.  Both pitches went for balls.

...When Fujikawa pitches in Sunday's Ikusei League game against the Chunichi Dragons, it will be the first time he appears in a Ni-gun game since 7/23/2004.

...Takahahiro Arai started playing catch again on Thursday.  He also included some 30 meter sprints into his workouts as well.  He told reporters that he's feeling better every day.  On Friday, he ran some more sprints, played some more catch, and also added soft toss BP and fielding practice to his workouts.

...When Kyuji Fujikawa followed Tomoyuki Kubota out of the pen on Thursday, it marked the first time they followed each other in relief since July 13, 2008 (a period of 606 days).

...Akinobu Mayumi told reporters he'd like to have 1-2 pitchers he can turn to before getting to K. Fujikawa.  Mayumi currently likes what he sees in Kubota.

...Kenji Johjima caught K. Fujikawa for the first time during exhibition play on Thursday.

...Casey Fossum told reporters after dismal his start on Thursday against the Orix Buffaloes (5 IP, 25 BF, 80 NP, 11 H including a home run, 0 SO, 1 BB, 6 R, 6 ER) that he wanted another chance to prove his worth.

...It appears K. Fujikawa's next appearance might be for 2 innings in an Ikusei League game on the 14th (vs Chunichi).

...Matt Murton picked up his first hit in his 13th trip to the plate against Orix Buffaloes on Thursday.  It was during his second at bat in the third inning with a runner on second and 2 out.

...Craig Brazell also broke a bit of a slump, picking up his first hit in his 12th plate apppearance during Thursday's game against the Orix Buffaloes.

...Over 6 exhibition games, Ikuro Katsuragi is 7-for-9, which also includes the home run from his game on Thursday against the Buffaloes.

...Club president Nobuo Minami told reporters that it was still too early to start looking into new / aditional foreign help.
