Former Tokyo Giant Hachiro Maekawa passes away at 97

Hachiro Maekawa passed away at 5:40am on Tuesday due to respiratory failure. He was 97 years old.
Maekawa played for the Giants between 1936 and 1938. He followed that up with a year on Hankyu. He later managed high school baseball and worked with the Giants as a scout.
In July 2009, Maekawa threw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Masumi Kuwata has apparently been selected as valedictorian (卒業式の総代) for his graduating class at the Graduate School of Sport Sciences, Waseda University. Kuwata was the top student in a class of 33 students. Kuwata's supervisor at the university, Takeo Hirata, told reporters that Kuwata got A pluses on most of his assignments.
