NPB signs a partnership deal with Coca-Cola Japan

...NPB Commissioner Ryozo Kato reminded to all 12 teams on Thursday that they should be using regulation helmets (no players should be using helmets where the protective padding has been removed).

...The NPB announced on Thursday that they signed a partnership deal with Coca-Cola Japan, specifically with their Georgia coffee drinks.

And beginning this season, there will be a new award called the Georgia Award.  Every two weeks, a panel of six judges will pick six key plays that helped a team win.  Fans will then vote on the one play they think was the best (votes can be cast at Georgia Baseball Park).  A total 12 plays will be selected over the course of the season, of which 1 will be selected as the play of the year.

...The Pacific League Marketing Group announced on Thursday that they signed a sponsorship agreement with Manulife Life Insurance.  This marks the first time a company will be sponsoring a league throughout the course of a season.

...Former NPB player Isao Mimura passed away at 2:07am on Wednesday, likely due to complications from hepatocellular carcinoma.  He was 86.

Mimura bounced around quite a bit during his 10 NPB, starting with the Chubu Nippon (now the Chunichi Dragons) in 1946.  From there he played for the Tokyu Flyers (now the Nippon Ham Fighters) in 1948, the Daiei Stars in 1949, spent three years with the Shochiku Robbins, and ended his career with the Hiroshima Carp.
