Orix Buffaloes: March 23, 2010

by on Mar.23, 2010 @ 10:52 pm, under NPB

...Freddie Bynum joined the Ichi-gun team for practice on Tuesday.  Akinobu Okada appeared to like what he saw in Bynum, saying that he had a good swing and quick legs.  He also said that Bynum was more than the player than he was expecting.

Bynum will likely continue working out at Ni-gun for the time being.  It doesn't really look like there's set ETA for when he'll get to Ichi-gun.

...Tetsuya Yokoyama was demoted to Ni-gun on Tuesday.

...There was talk of letting Mamoru Kishida start a game at Ni-gun in order to stay sharp for his start against the Nippon Ham Fighters on the 31st, but Okada apparently didn't want to "waste" any innings and instead used him in relief on Monday (6 IP, 23 BF, 93 NP, 4 H, 4 SO, 2 BB, R, ER).

...For the 1st time since 2000 (and 11th time since the two-league system), Orix has a 3-0 start to their season.  The last time they won three 1-run games in a row: 10/7/1997 - 10/10/1997.  The Buffaloes were 16-20 in one-run games last year.
