...Tsuneo Watanabe told reporters on Friday that Yoshinobu Takahashi would be the Giants' manager 9-10 years from now.

...Masaichi Kaneda gave a lecture to Ni-gun players on Saturday.  He spoke for about an hour on what it meant to be a pro baseball player.

...Asides from becoming the first left-handed pitcher in franchise history to win two opening day starts, Tetsuya Utsumi also became just the third pitcher in franchise history to record 10+ strike outs on opening day.  The other two: Masumi Kuwata and Koji Uehara.

Utsumi's final line: 8 IP, 29 BF, 119 NP, 4 H, 10 SO, 2 BB, 1 R, 0 ER.

...Prior to their opening day victory on Friday, the Giants had dropped their last two opening day games.

...The Giants' rookie Hisayoshi Chono wasn't in the starting line-up on opening day, but did enter the game, to a nice round of applause, on defense in the 9th.

...Yoshinobu Takahashi's RBI single in the 4th was his first since 9/13/2008 (vs the Yakult Swallows).

...Marc Kroon managed to hit 150km/h+ during his outing on Friday.

All 7 of the hits the Giants recorded on Friday were singles.

Of the 11 singles they hits, 7 were to center, 3 were to right, and 1 was to left.

It was the first time in 14 years the team won an opening day game without a home run.

It was also the first time since 1953 that they won without an extra base hit.
