Yokohama Bay Stars: March 29, 2010

by on Mar.29, 2010 @ 8:32 pm, under NPB

...The Bay Stars promoted Yuji Yoshimi and demoted Hiroaki Onishi on Sunday.  Yoshimi will likely get the start in the middle game of the home opener -- Naoyuki Shimizu is already set to start on Tuesday and Stephen Randolph on Thursday.

...From Sundays game against the Hanshin Tigers:

...Jose Castillo stole two bases in the game -- one in the second and one in the sixth.  He also collected his first official hits in the NPB: a single in the 2nd and a double in the 6th.

...Shun Yamaguchi picked up the save with a dominant 9th.

Yamaguchi's final line: 1 IP, 3 BF, 11 NP, 0 H, 2 SO, 0 BB, 0 R, 0 ER.

...For those keeping track, Takao Obana did indeed throw the ball into the stands.  But club staffers noticed what he did and immediately tracked the ball down and managed to retrieve it.  As for why he threw it into the stands: he apparently didn't realize it was Hitoshi Fujie's first pro win.

...Yoshitomo Tsutsugo hit his first "pro" home run during a Ni-gun game against Seibu on the 28th (he started at third and batted fourth).  The home run came in the 5th off Yasuhiro Tanaka.

...The Bay Stars will be selling a limited edition home opener baseball cap, called the 2010 Opening Cap (2010年オープニングキャップ), beginning on 3/30.  Stock is limited to 300 and each cap will retail for 3,500 yen.

...The Bay Stars announced the start of three new lunch boxes "produced" by Seiichi Uchikawa, Daisuke Miura, and Shuichi Murata.  All three lunch boxes will go on sale for 1,000 yen beginning on 3/30 and will be limited to 100 meals each.

...Shimizu's personal blog will be opening on 3/30/2010.
