Hideki Matsui, Koji Uehara, Junichi Tazawa

by on Mar.31, 2010 @ 2:19 pm, under MLB

Hideki Matsui started in left and batted third against the Milwaukee Brewers on the 30th.  He had one chance in the 5th and handled it without without a problem.  Matsui was removed from the game in the 8th on defense (his longest outing in left this Spring).

With the bat, Matsui went 1-for-3: ground out to first, strike out, single to left.

Takashi Saito started a game against the New York Yankees on the 30th.  He gave up 2 runs on 5 hits (including one homer) over 5 innings of work.  Saito also struck out 3.

===

Daisuke Matsuzaka spent some time playing catch a day after his 62-pitch simulated game.  His next outing will likely be on the 4/3.  At this point, Matsuzaka will likely won't make it back to the MLB roster until the end of April as the Red Sox expect him to make at least 3 starts in the minors.  That would place his return sometime around the 23rd, at the earliest.

Junichi Tazawa visited Dr. James Andrew to get his right elbow checked out.  It seems he suffered an injury to a ligament in his elbow.  He will most likely start the year on the DL.

===

Koji Uehara did some short distance running and played some catch on the 30th.  Uehara will probably start the season on the DL and may be out until the end of April.

===

Kazuo Matsui started at second and batted second against the Philadelphia Phillies on the 30th.  He went 1-for-4: single to left, ground out to third, walk, fly out to left, ground out to second.  Matsui was removed in the 9th on defense.

===

Ryota Igarashi and Hisanori Takahashi will both pitch on the 31st against the Florida Marlins.

===

Ichiro Suzuki will be appearing in a commercial for Morinaga Bifidus Yogurt in Japan.  The commercial will begin airing nationwide beginning on 4/2.

===

Hiroki Kuroda started a game in the minors on the 29th and gave up just 1 run on 2 hits over 7 innings of work.  He did not walk any batters and struck out 7.
