...From Friday's game against the Yomiuri Giants:

...The Giants beat the Carp, 5-4.

...Maomi Yuki threw out the ceremonial first pitch on Friday.

...If not for Alex Ramirez (2-for-4, 2 HR, 2 R, 4 RBI), Kenta Maeda's start would have been great.  Something must have clicked for Ramirez because he struck out in his first two at bats against Maeda before hitting a 3-run game-tying bomb in the 5th, and tie-breaking solo homer in the 7th.

Incidentally, Ramirez's first home run came on a slider away and his second home run came on a fastball in.  When Ramirez struck out in the first, it was on a slider down and away (out of the zone); and when he struck out in the 3rd, it was on a slider in the strike zone, down and away.

Maeda final line: 7 IP, 33 BF, 118 NP, 8 H, 6 SO, 3 BB, 1 HBP, 5 R, 5 ER.

...Head coach Yutaka Ono spent about 20 minutes (in the outfield, in the middle of the rain, on Thursday) explaining to Yuki Saito how important it was to attack batters with his fastball.

Seems Ono wasn't entirely happy with the slider that Saito threw to Tomoaki Kanemoto on Wednesday (it ended up in the seats as a 2-run homer).
