Nippon Ham Fighters: April 3, 2010

...From Saturday's game against the Seibu Lions:

...The Fighters beat the Lions, 2-1.  They also stopped a 5-game slide.

...Sho Nakata started at left and went 0-for-3: ground out to short, fly out to center, ground out to pitcher.  He was taken out of the game in the 8th on defense (Toshimasa Konta replaced him).

...Tomochika Tsuboi recorded a triple in the 2nd inning. It was his first triple since 2007.

Final line: 2-for-3, 3B, RBI - triple to left, single to right, ground out to second.

...Kensuke Tanaka hit his first home run of the year.  It was also the difference in the game.

Final line: 1-for-2, R, RBI: strikeout, home run, walk, walk.

...Yu Darvish finally won his first game of the year with another solid start.  After giving up a lead-off single in the third, Darvish retired 10 consecutive batters.  The streak ended with two consecutive singles in the 6th.  That ultimately set the table for the Lions' sole run of the game.  And outside of the 5th, Darvish recorded at least one strike out in each of the innings he pitched.

Final line: 8 IP, 32 BF, 143 NP, 6 H, 11 SO, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 ER.

...Brian Wolfe recorded his first save with a perfect 9th.

Final line: 1 IP, 3 BF, 9 NP, 0 H, 0 SO, 0 BB, 0 R, 0 ER.

...The Fighters held a press conference for Yuya Ishii on Saturday.  His uniform number with the Fighters will be 27.

...Toshinobu Kubota threw out the ceremonial first pitch on Friday.
