...Hisashi Iwakuma gave up 8 runs (all earned) during his start on Saturday.  The last time he did that was back on 8/3/2005 (vs the Chiba Lotte Marines).

...From Sunday's game against the Softbank Hawks:

...The Eagles lost the game, 3-2.

...Despite getting 5 hits and 5 free passes, the offense could only pull together two runs over 6+ innings.

...The number 4 and 5 hitters (Takeshi Yamasaki and Andy Phillips) went a combined 0-for-9 and 0-for-4 in run-scoring situations:

1st inning, runner on third, 2 out - Yamasaki grounds out to second

3rd inning, runners on first and second, 2 out - Yamasaki strikes out

7th inning, runner on first and third, no out - Yamasaki flies out  to second and Phillips strikes out

...A tough outing for Masahiro Tanaka.  It wasn't his best game, but he still pitched managed to hold the Hawks to just 3 runs (2 earned) despite giving up 10 hits and 4 walks.

Final line: 9 IP, 39 BF, 134 NP, 10 H, 4 SO, 4 BB, 3 R, 2 ER.

...Marty Brown was fined 50,000 yen and given a stern warning for his tirade and ejection on Saturday.  Incidentally, Brown is now in sole possession of first place for ejections (he was tied with Masaichi Kaneda).

...The Eagles attracted about 1,600 fans for their Ni-gun home opener on Saturday.  They beat Yomiuri 6-4.
