Hisanori Takahashi officially made the Mets' opening day roster.  His comment:

I worked out this winter with the firm belief that this day would come (referring to being on the opening day roster).  I'm glad I came to the US.  I'm excited [about opening day] and I'm looking forward to it.  I think I'll be able to pitch my game even after opening day.  If I get to pitch, I'll do my best.

Daisuke Matsuzaka threw 68 pitches during his outing on the 3rd.

Boston beat New York 9-7 on opening day and Hideki Okajima picked up the win by tossing a scoreless inning in relief (1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 SO, 14 NP, 4 BF).
