It seems gachinko, which can also mean compete, could be the Pirates' team slogan in 2010 (Akinori Iwamura provided the word).

Iwamura also practiced on the field (PNC Park) for the first time on the 4th and had a mini-battle with what appeared to be gnats.  He later joking told reporters he needs to prepare to battle not only his opponents, but also the gnats.

Hideki Matsui will be stepping into the batter's box with one of three songs: You Don't Belong by Daugtry, From the Inside by Linkin Park, and Hit the Floor, also by Linkin Park.

Matsui told reporters that he'd like to attack the season as if he were going to hit a home run in every one of his at bats.

Shigetoshi Hasegawa told reporters that he'd like to see Matsui play in all 162 games this year (DH and in left).  He also said that the Angels were like one big happy family and that Matsui should find it easy to get comfortable.

According to Sponichi, Matsui merchandise is the hottest thing on sale at the team store located at Angel Stadium.
