Softbank Hawks: April 6, 2010

...From Tuesday's game against the Chiba Lotte Marines:

...The Hawks won the game, 4-2.  The Hawks have now won three games in a row.

...Nobuhiko Matsunaka slammed his second home run of the year, a 2-run shot in the 2nd.  A lead-off triple by Munenori Kawasaki in the 5th, followed by an RBI single to left by Yuichi Honda gave the Hawks a 3-0 lead.  A stolen base by Honda and a throwing error set the table for a sac fly by Hiroki Kokubo for the fourth and final run of the game (Kokubo actually ended up on second due to an E7).

...Dennis Houlton finally managed to win his first game of the year after dropping his first two starts.  And he did it in style, holding the Marines to just two hits over the first 6 innings of the game -- he only allowed one batter to get past first (5th inning, 2-out double by Toshiaki Imae).  Houlton likely lost some steam in the 7th as allowed two runs to score on a 1-out single by Saburo (he moved up to second on a ground out on the next play), a 2-out double by Tomoya Satozaki, and a 2-out single by Imae.  He was taken out of the game after that.

Final line: 6.2 IP, 27 BF, 108 NP, 5 H, 5 SO, 2 BB, 2 R, 2 ER.

...The trio of Tadashi Settsu, Brian Falkenborg, and Takahiro Mahara recorded the final 7 outs of the game by facing just one over the minimum (a two out single to Kazuya Fukuura in the 9th).

...Tsuyoshi Wada and Shingo Tatsumi both held bullpen sessions on Monday and threw about 70 pitches.  Wada's next start will likely come on the 8th against the Chiba Lotte Marines.

...Toshiya Sugiuchi's next start will likely be on the 9th against the Nippon Ham Fighters.

...Kenta Imamiya hit a home run at Yahoo Dome during a Ni-gun game against the Hanshin on the Tuesday.  The home run came in the 5th inning off Casey Fossum.  It was Imamiya's second home run of the year.

...Hiroki Yamada tossed a complete game shutout against the Ni-gun Orix on Sunday (9 IP, 35 BF, 6 H, 3 BB, 1 HBP, 3 SO, 0 ER).  Yamada is trying to make his way into the Hawks' Ichi-gun starting rotation.
