...From Tuesday's game against the Hanshin Tigers:
...The Giants lost the game, 5-4. They're 4-game winning streak comes to an end.
...The offense was held to just 2 hits over the first 5 innings of the game. They had some help from a shoddy Tigers' defense with their 2-run third: with runners on second and third and 2 out, a throwing error by Keiichi Hirano on a Michihiro Ogasawara grounder to second allowed the two runners on base to score.
The offense did have a chance at a comeback in the top of the 9th when they got runners on first and third with two outs against Kyuji Fujikawa. But Yoshinobu Takahashi couldn't get the job done and simply flied out to center.
...Tetsuya Matsumoto managed to extend his hitting streak to 10 games with his single to right in the 7th.
Final line: 2-for-5, R -> fly out to center, ground out to first, fly out to left, single to right, single to right.
...Hisayoshi Chono started in right and batted eighth.
Final line: 0-for-3, R -> walk, strikeout, fly out to center, ground out to first.
...Shugo Fujii was yanked from the game after giving up a 2-run homer to Tomoaki Kanemoto in the 6th inning. He started things off by retiring the first 6 batters he faced, but then allowed a run to score in the 2nd on a throwing error by Hayato Sakamoto. Things started going downhill from there: in the 4th inning he gave up a lead-off double to Takashi Toritani. After striking out Kanemoto for the first out of the inning, he gave up a 2-run jack to Takahiro Arai to give the Tigers a 4-3 lead. Fujii retired the side in order in the 5th, but then gave up that 2-run homer to Kanemoto in the 6th, right after Shinnosuke Abe tied the game at 3 in top of the inning.
Final line: 5.1 IP, 22 BF, 80 NP, 5 H, 8 SO, 0 BB, 5 R, 4 ER.
