From Wednesday's game against the Rakuten Eagles:
...The Fighters lost to the Eagles, 6-3. They have now lost 3 games in a row and are 1-4 so far in April. They have now also lost 5 straight series to start the season (for the first time since they became Nippon Ham in 1974).
...The offense scored their first run in the first on an RBI double by Shinji Takahashi. A 2-run homer by Tomohiro Nioka accounted for the other runs the Fighters scored in the game.
The Fighters did have a chance to put a couple of runs on the board in the 6th with they had runners on first and second and 1 out, but neither Yoshio Itoi (ground out to catcher) nor Eiichi Koyano (ground out to short) could get the job done. They had one more chance in the 9th when Koyano doubled with two outs, but Nioka ended up fouling out to first to end the game.
...Buddy Carlyle gave up 5 runs (4 earned) over 5.1 innings of work. While Carlyle pitched fairly well over the first two frames of the game (giving up just a solo homer to Takeshi Yamasaki in the second), he did run into trouble from the third inning on, giving up three runs in the third and a run in the fifth.
