From Wednesday's game against the Hanshin Tigers:
...The Giants shutout the Tigers, 3-0.
...The offense kept applying pressure throughout the entire game, putting runners on base in each inning other than the first. But the only time the Giants managed to score some runs was in the third inning, thanks to a lead-off double by Ryota Wakiya, a sac bunt by Kentaro Nishimura, an RBI single by Hayato Sakamoto, and one out later, a 2-run homer by Michihiro Ogasawara.
Had the Giants lost the game, they would have had no one to blame other than themselves though. They left two men stranded in the 4th (runners on first and third, 2 out), two men stranded in the 6th (runners on second and third, 2 out), and three men in the 8th (bases loaded 2 out).
A little more on the 8th inning: the Giants actually had runners on first and third and no out when Hisayoshi Chono stepped up to the plate. He proceeded to ground into a double play. Wakiya was intentionally walked and stole second. Seung-Yeop Lee followed with another walk. Hayato Sakamoto then ended the inning by flying out to right.
...Nishimura didn't run into much of any trouble during his 7-inning outing, scattering just 3 singles. The bullpen provided the Tigers with scoring opportunities in the 8th (runners on first and second, 1 out) and 9th (runners on first and third, 2 out), but managed to keep the shutout intact.
* Nishimura won his first game as a starter since 8/2/2006.
