Recap

Masanori Ishikawa was a bit shaky from the start, allowing runners on first and second in both the first and fourth innings.  He also gave up a 2-out double in the 2nd inning.  In the 5th, the Carp managed to push across the first run of the game on a sac fly to left by Eishin Soyogi.  Ishikawa recorded his second 1-2-3 inning of the night in the 6th, but then fell apart in the 7th by giving up three consecutive hits after recording the first out of the inning: a double to left by Yoshiyuki Ishihara, a single to left by Kenta Maeda, and then an RBI single to right by Akihiro Higashide.

The Swallows pulled Ishikawa after that and inserted Kenichi Matsuoka to try and stop the bleed.  But instead of keeping the score set a 2-0, Matsuoka hit Soyogi to load the bases.  He managed to retired Soichi Amaya on a fly ball to left, but Kenta Kurihara came though in a big way with a 2-run single to left to give the Carp a 4-0 lead.  It was Kurihara's first hit in 12 plate appearances and just his third hit in 21 trips to the plate.

Meanwhile, the Swallows offense sputtered and Kenta Maeda shined.

Maeda held Yakult to just 4 hits over 8 innings of work and only allowed two base-runners to get to second.  In the 9th, the Swallows managed to apply some pressure with runners on first and second and no out, but Aaron Guiel flied out to left, Shinya Miyamoto grounded out to third (moving runners up to second and third) and pinch hitter Kazuhiro Hatakeyama grounded out to short to end the game.

The Carp finally recorded their third win of the season as the Swallows dropped their third game over their last five.

Notes

...Kenta Maeda had a busy day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and 2 runs scored. ... Ishikawa continues to struggle against Higashide (9-for-18 in 2009 and 2-for-4 so far this year).
