Darrell Rasner had an ominous start to the ball game when he walked Yoshio Itoi on 8 pitches. On sac bunt and one ground out later, Rasner uncorked a wild pitch that gave the Fighters an early 1-0 lead without the use of a single hit. The Fighter kept applying the pressure after that: Eiichi Koyano led off the 2nd with a double, advanced to third on another wild pitch by Rasner, and a strikeout later, scored on Tomohiro Nioka's single to right. In the fourth, the Fighters loaded the bases with two outs (consecutive singles with one out followed by a fly out to first and a walk to Dai-Kang Yang. Three consecutive singles from Itoi, Yuji Iiyama, and Kensuke Tanaka allowed the Fighters to break out of a 2-2 tie and take a 6-2 lead. It also spelled the end of Rasner's night.
The Fighters scored their last two runs in the 7th:
With a runner on third and 1 out, Shinji Takahashi drove in the 6th run of the game with a single to left and Koyano followed with an RBI double to right.
Bobby Keppel retired the first six batters he faced before hitting the first batter he face in the third. A walk put runners on first and second and no out. After Naota Watanabe failed to move the runners up via bunt, a wild pitch provided similar results. Ryo Hijirisawa then poked a single to left to push 2 runs across the plate and tie the game at 2.
Keppel faltered a bit in the 4th inning, allowing two consecutive, two-out hits to Any Phillips and Todd Linden, but they ended up staying put. The Eagles went down in order in the 5th and in the 6th, they tacked on two more runs: Yosuke Takasu hit a lead-off single to center and scored on Takeshi Yamasaki's 2nd home run of the year.
...The Fighters stopped a 3-game slide. ... Masataka Nashida was forced to play around with the batting order after Atsunori Inaba complained of back discomfort and was held out of the starting line-up as a precaution. ... Yamasaki entered the game with 2,997 career total bases. In the 6th, with Bobby Keppel on the mound, he nailed his second home run in as many days and reached 3,001 total bases for his career.
