The GBL season will begin on 5/19, with the Outlaws' road opener on the 21st and their home opener on the 27th.

Yoshida will become the first female player since Ila Borders was active (1997-2000).

Seems a contract has also been signed.  There's also a post of the signing at the Chico Outlaws website.

Here's a snippet:

(Chico, CA. April 8, 2010) The Chico Outlaws of the Golden Baseball League (GBL), the premier independent minor league in western North America, today announced that Japanese pitching sensation Eri Yoshida has agreed to terms where the 18 year-old female sidearm knuckleball pitcher will play for Chico this summer, reporting to spring training in early May.

Eri Yoshida has updated her blog with a note stating that she has decided to join the Chico Outlaws.  What follows is my translation of that post.  Not perfect, but I think it gets the job done.

My announcement has taken me some time
and I apologize for any concerns this may have caused.

I wanted to announce that I have decided
to join the Chico Outlaws.

I thought about this for a long time...

This is something I can only do now,
and I felt I didn't want to let this opportunity slip by.

I participated in the Arizona Winter Leagues,
and after having a chance to meet and work with Boston Red Sox player Tim Wakefield,
my feelings for America only grew stronger,
and my feelings for becoming a real knuckleballer
got stronger as well.

And that's when I thought
it would be best for me to pursue my dreams.

And just like this,
I'll be able to continue following my dreams
and to experience new things.

And for that, I am really grateful.

I do apologize for not being able to give back to the community in Japan...

But I will do my best as I pursue my dreams,
and I would be happy if I can
continue to rely on your support.
