Games from April 9th:

Rangers 6 - Mariners 2
Ichiro Suzuki started in right and batted lead-off.  He went 2-for-4: double, foul out to third, infield single (caught stealing), ground out to second.

Athletics 10 - Angels 4
Hideki Matsui was the starting DH and batted fourth.  He went 1-for-4 with an RBI: home run, fly out to short, line out to pitcher, fly out to right.  He also recorded his 600th MLB / NPB RBI of his career.

Royals 4 - Red Sox 3
Hideki Okajima entered the game in the 8th with a 3-2 lead and gave up a run on one hit over 0.1 innings of work.

Dodgers 7 - Marlins 3
Hiroki Kuroda started and tossed 8 innings while giving up a run (not earned) on 5 hits and a walk.  He also struck out 7 and recorded his first win of the year.

Giants 5 - Braves 4
Takashi Saito entered the game in the 8th inning with 4-2 lead and tossed a perfect inning. He also struck out one.

Diamondbacks 9 - Pirates 1
Akinori Iwamura started at second and batted first.  He went 2-for-4: infield single, double in to the gap in left-center, fly out to center, double play.

Mets 8 - Nationals 2
Hisanori Takahashi entered the game in the 7th with a 3-2 lead and pitched a scoreless inning and struck out one.

Reds 5 - Cubs 4
Kosuke Fukudome entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the 9th with 2 outs and hit a single to right.


Ryota Igarashi topped out at 153km/h (95mph) during his outing on the 8th.


Kenshin Kawakami threw about 60 pitches in the bullpen on the 8th in preparation for his start on the 10th.


Daisuke Matsuzaka joined up with the AAA team on the 9th and will work out with them for about a week.  He's scheduled to pitch in games on the 10th and 15th.  When he gets to pitch in the Majors will be determined how he pitches in those two games.


It seems there was a "this space available for advertising" ad during an NHK broadcast of a Pirates came on the 8th.  The ad showed up behind home plate and in Japanese (広告募集).


Toshihisa Nishi headed for the US on Saturday.  He'll hook up with the Lancaster Barnstormers on the 12th, in time for the start of the season on the 22nd.


Colby Lewis started his first MLB game on the 9th and beat the Mariners, 6-2.  His final line: 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R,  1 ER, 4 BB, 3 SO.
