Scouts from 16 teams (Japan and US) were at Jingu Stadium on Tuesday to catch Hirokazu Sawamura pitch. Sawamura did not disappoint: he threw 136 pitches over 10 innings while giving up 2 runs (one earned) on 4 hits. He also topped out at 153km/h. Final line: 10 IP, 35 BF, 135 NP, 4 H, 1 BB/HBP, 7 S, 1 ER.
Sawamura developed a blister on his right middle finger in the 5th and managed to pitch through it by relying on his curve and fork.
And it would seem the Yomiuri Giants are very interested in Sawamura.
Masahiro Inui also pitched a great game on Wednesday, striking out 12 batters over 9 innings of work (9 IP, 34 BF, 113 NP, 6 H, 1 BB/HBP, 12 SO, 1 ER). The Dragons appear to like Inui.
Naoki Takahashi received approval from the Japan Student Baseball Association (as all former pro players that want coaching positions at high schools and colleges), backdated to the 9th, and will be taking a coaching job with the Ryutsu Keizai University baseball team (out of the New Tokyo University Baseball League). His uniform number with the team will be 53.
