Yomiuri Giants: April 17, 2010

by on Apr.17, 2010 @ 2:31 pm, under NPB

...Seems Tatsunori Hara will be mixing things up with his starting rotation this year.  He told reporters that he plans to make at least one surprise move each month by starting pitchers like Tetsuya Utsumi and Dicky Gonzalez on four days of rest.

Based on the current rest schedules, Utsumi was most likely to start a game on the 14th against the Hanshin Tigers.  Instead, Gonzalez started the game on four days of rest and apparently creating some confusion for the Tigers.  And it seems the Giants could pull something off again during their two game series against the Yakult Swallows.  While Shun Tono (Saturday) and Kentaro Nishimura (Sunday) will likely make starts during the series, the Giants also have Shugo Fujii with them.  While it could be for insurance purposes, Sanspo appears to think that Fujii could make a surprise start during the series.

...The Giants could have two of the best 1-2 hitters in the NPB right now: Hayato Sakamoto (.381/.376/.619, 5 SB) and Tetsuya Matsumoto (.464/.500/.565, 10 SB).

...Marc Kroon threw 57 pitches in the bullpen on Thursday.  He will likely pitch on Sunday as a member of Sirius.

...So far in the month of April, Alex Ramirez has two grand slams and two 3-run homers.
